WORKSHOPS (Spring 2019)

  CLASSES & WORKSHOPS

Fluid Painting

ages 16+

Release your inner artist and create your very own abstract masterpiece! Fluid paintings, or pour paintings, are easy to do and you don’t need to know how to draw or paint to create one. You will learn to mix paints and how to use different items to create different effects (yes, you can make a painting using things like chopsticks, a dustpan or a colander). We will supply one canvas, and all the other supplies you will need to create your very own work of art. If you would like to create more than one painting, bring along another canvas — or a piece of primed wood, a tile, a vase, or any object that will fit into an 11 inch x 14 inch basin. It’s going to be very messy, so wear clothes that you don’t mind getting paint on.

Stitch ‘n’ Bitch: Hand Embroidery

Hand embroidery, a lost art, dates back to the 14th century, where it was used to embellish the clothing of the wealthy. Young girls were taught it at an early age as a life skill. Excellent stitching was a status symbol. This class will give you a sample of some of the basic stitches and maybe entice you to continue. Hand embroidery is something you can take with you and stitch while waiting for an appointment, or for the kids. A very relaxing pastime! Bring a simple image or text you would like to embroider. All supplies included.

Stitch ‘n’ Bitch: Wet Felting on Silk

As you work through the felting process, wool fibres migrate through the weave of the silk and entangle, pulling the silk and any other embellishments along with them as they shrink. You will produce an incredibly lightweight garment that drapes the body beautifully. Bring towels for cleaning up. Cost of supplies is $20, if not taken as part of the 5-Worskshop Pass.
