Photography for Beginners

ages 13+

New! History, technique, lighting, working with people, gear, lenses — all of it! Learn what all the buttons and dials on your camera do, how they affect the final image, and how to make artistic choices using them. If you are interested in landscapes, portraits, nature and animals, macro, abstract, travel, or any other type of photography, then we will cover it. No previous experience necessary.

We will start with the very basics of photography (how to take out your battery and charge it) through the general (how does the lens change the world in front of you?) and through to the highest level of nerd knowledge (how does aperture affect sensor dust?). Don’t worry; if there is something you want to know, we will address it.

with Leif Norman

Leif has shot photographs professionally for about ten years. He shoots festivals, events, dance, theatre, headshots, architecture — but no weddings. Five years ago, he founded Winnipeg’s photographic festival, FLASH, which will come back in April of 2020. He dabbles in historical photographic processes and has a collection of over 250 photographic books, which makes him so educated that he won’t stop talking and can’t tell when people are bored at parties.
